August Update

The Beau Biden Foundation has been working hard this summer to make sure children are safe.

We’ve been to several camps to talk directly with children about online safety.

We’ve worked to educate policy makers on the importance of better statutes, and advocate for laws to strengthen mandatory child protection education for educators.

A few weeks ago, members of the Beau Biden Foundation proudly looked on as Governor John Carney signed a bill into law that will help prevent child abuse. The law consolidates current laws to improve child sexual abuse training and detection, suicide prevention, anti-bullying programs, criminal youth gang detection, and teen dating violence and sexual assault prevention. Now, educators at public and charter schools across Delaware will have the training they need to recognize signs of abuse, depression, or bullying and intervene effectively. Read more about the law here and share the good news on Facebook and Twitter.

We’ve educated adults on five ways to keep children safe — providing the Stewards of Children Program. And begun an important new partnership with our public libraries.

We even hosted a great baseball event at Blue Rocks Stadium, with our partner the Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation, for over 100 kids and their families.

Child Protection Day at the Wilmington Blue Rocks: The Beau Biden Foundation and the Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation hit one out of the park for Child Protection Day! We had 130 kids participate and 20 members of law enforcement in attendance to cheer on the Wilmington Blue Rocks and stick around after the game for a baseball clinic and safety presentation. Check out our photo album on Facebook from our day at the ballpark!

Please take a moment to review our Back-to-School Safety Series: As the school year ramps up, we understand that a lot of families are busy adjusting to a new schedule. We want to provide you with a back-to-school safety refresher that will help you take the necessary precautions to keep your kids safe online and during after-school programs.

For tips on how to protect your children from cyberbullying, read Part One of our Back-to-School Safety series.

For tips on how to keep your children safe during after-school programs and in emergency situations, read Part Two of our Back-to-School Safety Series.

And, the Race for Child Protection isn’t too far off.
