Protecting children. Empowering communities.
A message from the team
At the Beau Biden Foundation, we believe that prevention starts with people. With the right tools, training, and support, every adult can help protect a child. Our work is built on this truth. Whether you are a parent, teacher, mentor, or neighbor, you have a role to play in creating safe environments for children.
This month, we are sharing stories of growth, action, and partnership. You’ll read about a new initiative that brings child protection training to Delaware college students, a longtime community partner committed to safety, and simple ways to support children through challenging moments. Each piece reflects how your support strengthens the safety net around children, one conversation and one action at a time.
Helping children through tragedy
When children experience trauma, they often look to the adults around them for cues. In times of uncertainty or loss, they need consistent care and reassurance that they are not alone. These moments do not always come with warning. Natural disasters like the recent flooding in Texas, acts of violence in a community, or a sudden loss in the family can shake a child’s sense of safety.
As adults, we may not always know what to say. But showing up with honesty and calm presence can make a powerful difference. Our latest blog offers practical guidance for navigating these difficult times. You’ll find tips for starting conversations, ideas for offering support at different ages, and reminders that small gestures of care can go a long way.
Whether you are comforting a student, guiding a family member, or responding to crisis in your community, this resource can help you show up with clarity and compassion.
Highmark Grant Expands Shield of Protection® to Delaware Tech
Thanks to a $25,000 BluePrints for the Community grant from Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield Delaware, the Beau Biden Foundation will expand its Shield of Protection® program across Delaware Technical Community College campuses statewide.
The grant supports two distinct components. First, it funds the implementation of the Shield of Protection® program at Delaware Tech, which includes a comprehensive review of child protection policies, tailored recommendations based on best practices in child protection, and mandatory training for youth-serving staff. Second, the grant enables training for Delaware Tech students preparing for careers in education, healthcare, and law enforcement. These students will be equipped with the knowledge and skills to recognize and report signs of child abuse and identify grooming behaviors—essential competencies they will carry into professions that serve children and families.
This partnership strengthens the Foundation’s mission to build community-wide systems of prevention by preparing both current staff and future professionals to help keep children safe.
Partner spotlight: Children’s Beach House
Children’s Beach House supports children with special needs and their families through year-round programs that foster confidence, connection, and resilience. From adventure-based learning to family engagement, their work centers on helping every child reach their full potential.
As a Shield of Protection® partner, Children’s Beach House has demonstrated a strong, ongoing commitment to child safety. Through this partnership, the organization will be participating in a comprehensive review of its child protection policies and procedures, receive tailored recommendations aligned with national best practices, and ensure that staff complete training to recognize and report abuse, identify grooming behaviors, and maintain healthy boundaries.
By investing in strong protections for children, Children’s Beach House continues to be a leader in creating safe, supportive environments—and a vital force for prevention in the community.

Your role matters
The work of protecting children is not limited to a single person, profession, or organization. It is shared across families, schools, community centers, and every place where children live and learn. At the Beau Biden Foundation, we are building that shared responsibility into action.
When you take the time to read a blog, attend an event, or introduce a friend to our mission, you are helping grow a culture of prevention. You are showing that child protection is not someone else’s job. It is a value we all hold, and a responsibility we all share.
