A letter from the CEO

Dear Friends,

The Summer of 2025 has started! As many of you know, we had a very busy spring with education for children, families, and youth-serving professionals, along with speaking engagements at several national and local conferences. The summer looks to be equally full as we move into camps and trainings for teachers. YOU make all of this possible. You should also know that our work is recognized nationwide; in fact, I have two calls with PAL organizations on the West Coast this week.

Our partnerships continue to grow, serving more children, families, and communities. Widespread community education ensures that everyone operates under best practices in child protection. Beau Biden described this approach as a wheel. Each sector—educators, law enforcement, healthcare professionals, faith-based organizations, youth-serving organizations, community centers, government agencies, and families—is a spoke in that wheel. When everyone is trained to keep children safe, knows the warning signs, and understands how to report abuse, the system works. This was Beau’s dream: a world without child abuse. And for him, it started with the community.

Thank you for continuing Beau’s mission. We could not do this work without you. We are extremely grateful and look forward to sharing how we will keep improving the safety and wellbeing of the communities we call home.

Best,
Patty

The power of community in preventing child abuse

Beau Biden believed in a simple but powerful idea: when every part of a community works together, children are safer.
Educators, faith leaders, healthcare providers, law enforcement, and families—all are spokes in a wheel of protection. When every adult is equipped to recognize the signs of abuse and empowered to act, that wheel turns steadily. But when even one part is unprepared, a child can slip through the cracks.

This is why community education matters.

A teacher trained to recognize emotional abuse may notice a change in a student’s behavior and take steps to intervene. A volunteer coach who understands appropriate boundaries can model healthy interactions and help prevent grooming. A neighbor who knows how to report suspected abuse can be the voice a child needs.

Every role matters. Prevention is possible when adults are informed, aware, and ready to act.

Explore training opportunities and resources to learn how you can help build a community that protects every child.

Program spotlight: Shield of Protection®

The Beau Biden Foundation’s Shield of Protection® program helps youth-serving organizations take practical steps to keep children safe.

Through training and clear policies, staff and volunteers learn how to recognize signs of abuse, understand reporting responsibilities, and respond when something doesn’t seem right.

Whether it’s a school, camp, after-school program, or other youth-serving organization, each partner commits to creating safer spaces for children and the adults who care for them.

If your organization works with children, visit beaubidenfoundation.org/shield-of-protection to learn how to become a Shield of Protection® partner today.

Growing the reach of child protection education

Over the past six months, the Beau Biden Foundation has reached thousands of children, families, and youth-serving professionals.

Through in-person trainings, virtual workshops, and partnerships with organizations across the country, we’ve expanded our prevention efforts and strengthened child protection practices where they matter most.

The numbers below reflect how your support is helping more adults learn how to recognize abuse, respond effectively, and create safer spaces for children:

  • 17 trainings conducted
  • 1,774 participants trained
